Rio Grande Trail

Map Legend

Trail Description
An accessible walking and touring trail, the Rio Grande follows the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad bed along the Roaring Fork River. It is possible to follow this trail along the old scenic railroad corridor all the way from the post office in Aspen to the Upper Woody Creek Bridge, a distance of about 6 miles. Since much of the trail runs through the open valley, the snow on the Rio Grande Trail tends to deteriorate quickly when the weather is warm. This and the Marolt tracks are the only trails in the Nordic Trail System where dogs are allowed.
Difficulty: Beginner.
Length: 12 miles round trip. Many people use the very accessible 1.5 miles of trail between the Post Office and Cemetery Lane.
